I'm not disappointed. At least you didn't transfer
your scorn for M&W to Dave Monroe. I'm sure Dave and
most of us sitting in the crowd were expecting that
late blow from Robert because he always delivers it.
But the angle (angled, angling) of the belt had the
crowd doubled over in sympathy. Even Barb felt the
pain and that's saying a lot. PS, Ah, Barb, no one,
not even handsome Davie looks handsome when mad.
Angry, maybe, but not mad.

M&W get into the critical battle of the books. They
accuse other critics of misreading them. Others reply.
These battles are a waste of paper, money, talent, and
the reader's time. If McHale must reply to M&W why
doesn't he do so with a book review? The set a bad
example. McHale should have asked you for advice,
MalignD. One sentence would have been enough. Anyway,
I imagine that most of these battles should not be
taken too seriously. After all, by knocking other
critical studies, a critic often spurs (it is unfair
that readers are often obliged to do so) his readers
to go out and buy and read the books he knocks. But,
it's all in good fun, no need to call in the cops or
the law or do anything crazy like that.
