Setting the record straight, or not?

If I hadn't said on the list that I was happy to set the record straight 
when I could, and if Rob hadn't both asked me to do that and posted his 
request to the list, I wouldn't be writing this. And the fact is, I can't 
really say more than I already have, because I am mercifully uninformed 
about most of what has been said on the subject. I have no intention of 
reading up on the furor either, since I don't want to know who said what 
about whom. I'm sorry there's so much bad blood on the list, which used to 
be a venue for serious and useful and sometimes even entertaining 
exchanges. Why don't you all just drop this thread? It isn't doing anybody 
any good, and even being in the right isn't protecting anybody.

And please, everybody, don't quote me as ammunition against anybody else; 
just skip it, OK?
