Again? So soon? Didn't Naipaul win it, like, a
coupla months ago or something? Sheesh. Well, no,
okay, having been, er, burned (albeit not Erik burned)
on this last time around, will again hedge my bets by
saying, either Pynchon OR, indeed, an Arabic writer
(though I hardly know enough to take a guess as to
whom). "Rotated on a geographic basis," indeed, no
mattre what anybody down the Swedish Academy claims.
But Naipaul was my failsafe last time, did at least
guess Chinese when Bei Dao DIDN'T win it, and have
picked Grass and Oe, at least, in their respective
years (Fo? Szymborska?). Okay, okay, Vargas Llosa,
MAYBE, but not this year. Roth? Lessing? Er, who
were the other names floated there? Howzabout Alain
Robbe-Grillet? Claude Simon got one, so ... but, my
other guess is, this is definitely NOT the year Salman
Rushdie gets the Prize ...
