Too much.

Yes, you are correct. I certainly mean to suggest that being critical of
Bush is anti-American in this sense.

Disagree on both. Germany is very much involved in the oil business. A
different sort of involvement than say, the USA's involvement or Iraq's,
for sure, but not too unlike Japan's.
And the USA was not attacked by terrorists when GHW Bush formed his
coalition. Take a close look at the coalition GHB Bush built. Who paid
for the war? Who stayed out of it at the USA's request. Who sent troops?
Arms? Oil? Ships? Who kept quite. Who voted in favor of UN resolutions
and cut deals?
A coalition is being built. Bush will have his coalition, even if most
parties privately and reluctantly acquiesce while protesting publicly.
But, since Iraq has not invaded Kuwait and is not now threatening to
take control of a good percentage of ME oil the issues are different.
And, while GHW Bush also tried to change the government in Iraq, he did
not announce that this was his objective when he formed his coalition.
In fact, he assured the members of the coalition, particularly the Arab
states that he had no intentions of occupying Iraq. GW Bush plans to
occupy Iraq, take control of Iraq's oil, put a government in place.
Won't be easy to build a coalition around those stated objectives. But,
he will get enough of a coalition to make his bloody war.

All parties have very complex and conflicting interests. Including
Germany, France, Russia.

This is all speculation, but my guess is that the anti-terrorism
coalition will provide cover for the Iraq war coalition Bush will form.

I doubt that canceling the veto powers is a safer Course of action.

And don't forget California Boys.
I wish they all could be California Boys.
Wish they all could be California.
