A good start. Hey, you might even write one worthy of
publication or a perfect 10 on the limperdick scale.

the limerick is furtive and mean;
you must keep her in close quarantine,
or she sneaks to the slums
and promptly becomes
disorderly, drunk and obscene.

And

beware the hagg and hungry goblin,
that into raggs would rend yee,
& the spirit that stands
by the hired man,
with a booke of law to defend yee...

of thirty bare years have I
twice twenty been enraged
& of forty bin
three tymes fifteene
in durance soundlie cage'd
on the lordlie loftes of bedlam
with stubble softe and dainty,
brave braceletts strong,
sweet whip ding dong
with wholesome hunger plenty

And

barristers beastly ten hornes (God bless us)
I have knockt off three already:
if the let me alone
I will leave him none,
but they say I am too heady.

Professor of nonsense
and limperdicks says,

the limerick's, admitted, a verse form:
a terse form: a curse form: a hearse form.
it may not be lyric
and at best it's Satyric,
and a whale of a tail in perverse form.
for what is the limerick's true physiognomy?
dactyl or anapest, which can it be?
merciful god how the dactyl treads heavily
while the anapest gallops with glee

Cheer up boys and girls, it's a great day for the irish.

PS be sure to wear a bit of green with your pumpkin.
