The situation on pynchon-l

Folks,

I've ignored the current "crisis" on pynchon-l as long as I could, but
the time has come to say something. I think everyone needs to cool
things down a little bit, stop posting personal attacks to the list
(no matter their poetic merits) and stop forwarding off-list email to
the list.

This list is not moderated and not going to be. Nobody has the time to
screen messages before they go on the list to determine their NP
quotient if submitters don't exercise some restraint. If the personal
attacks don't stop, no matter how well-provoked and no matter my
personal opinion of the target, I'll be forced to kick people off the
list based on my snap judgement of the situation and I can't guarantee
that you'll agree with it. But I hope it won't come to that.

Please post any comments you may have to the list and not privately to
me, so everyone has the opportunity to discuss them. But most of all,
every one involved take a break and a deep breath.

Thanks,
Murthy
