Interesting how Heikki and MalignD both default to the
same specious Kinbote comparison -- "one of a kind,"
you might say, to use a phrase somebody used here
recently. I do like being able to relate the works of
art that I enjoy to daily life here on the planet
Earth even if that is apparently a detestable practice
in some circles. I've never quite understood how some
readers reach the conclusion that Pynchon -- or any
other writer -- doesn't reflect the lives we lead
outside of books; perhaps if somebody patiently
explains it to me, I'll get it one of these days,
simple country boy that I am. Expressing the wish
that somebody else would die, that seems a bit over
the top, even when prefaced with the "It's only in
jest" tag line, but no use in arguing about it. I
don't find it very funny. Different strokes for
different folks. I manage to find something to laugh
about in every one of the posts from these 2, so I
welcome the chips they contribute to the Pynchon-L
mosaic.
