While I don't recall Mendelson's notion of
encyclopedic literature (e.g., The Divine Comedy,
Gargantua and Pantagruel, Moby-Dick, Ulysses,
Gravity's Rainbow) being explicitly Bakhtinian, it
does seem implicitly heteroglossic ...
