...which they also have in common with Gnosticism, which rejected the body
and earthly life in favor of a perfect union of God somewhere over the
rainbow.  Arguably, this view leads to a technology project that treats
flesh, earth, and the life that springs therefrom as disposable Other,
making it possible for post-Enlightenment Man (there's a monolith for you,
Mr. T) to make a hell of this heavenly planet.
