I was wondering (he said, desperately hoping his comments would appear vaguely
on topic) if anyone on the list has read According to Queeny by Beryl
Bainbridge; it's a historical fiction that centers on Samuel Johnson during the
last years of his life, and his relationship with a wealthy family. The book is
phenomenal (as is most of Bainbridge's work), short (ditto), and worth a look
if you're interested in an another interpretation of Johnson's character.
I'm a bit over a hundred pages into Mason & Dixon, and loving it all. I
finished GR for the first time last weekend; the ending had me unable to
breathe for an uncomfortably long period of time. :)
