A clear Pynchon connection:

"The work of art, does not refer immediately back to the person who
presumably made it. When we know nothing at all about the circumstance that
contributed to its production, about the history of its creation--when we do
not even know the name of the person who made it possible--it is then that
the work comes closest to itself"
