When my family from Finland was here in San Francisco they did not
want to go to the out of the way little places that we knew and
liked. They really wanted to see the cable cars, Fisherman's Wharf,
Chinatown, Alcatraz, Golden Gate Park, etc. So that's where we went.
They also wanted to see Disneyland, Yosemite, and Death Valley.

When I go anywhere I usually want to see the "sights" first, then the
off track. I mean, what is France without the Eiffel Tower or the
Louvre? These are cultural centers, not just pretty places. Yes, the
tourists are numerous but if you let that little detail keep you from
seeing the pyramids outside of Cairo you may end up with only a
little coffee shop or barroom for a memory. Just be careful, don't be
flashy, keep the valuables close and copies of stuff safe. Hotels
usually provide secure keeps.
