Hey jbor. I'll tell you what I think your reading of the chaplain paragraph
is, then I invite you to explain what you think my reading is. That last
bale of straw has my allergies going crazy.

You think the point of the paragraph is that the teachings of the chaplains
are futile, and that the narrative voice is indicating that the soldiers are
"just dead and not in an afterlife" in contrast to the afterlife view of the
chaplains. Right?

What do you think I think the point of the paragraph is?
