"slap and dap" : "handshake" ritual consisting of a
series of fist and/or palm interactions and gestures.
Still seen today but prevalent in the sixties and
early seventies. (In some form or another, going back
much earlier, of course.)
True story -- at least one military base (Marines
1971) tried to ban the dap but not because of racial
tension. Some blacks were secretly complaining that
they weren't getting enough time to eat since the mess
hall was a favored place to display their solidarity
through tacitly obligatory, individual dap greetings.
