Rapier's shingle sez he's a "Devil's Advocate". From the description of his
shack and the content of his speech I'd say he's preaching against the
general consensus of this Counterforce Convention, as a "Devil's Advocate"
would be expected to, even though he really shares in its aims, whatever
those might be (and that's a bit hard to work out and set down, because the
whole thing seems designed to defy rational explanation, or "Analysis", as
the primary counterpart of "Control"). The Devil's Advocate's task is to
test out the report of a miracle by investigating and challenging the
details of the report and the claim.
Again, I'm at a loss as to what point you're trying to make. Are you saying
that the text endorses Fr Rapier's sermon? It doesn't seem to make a whole
lot of sense.
