The way Schiff tells it reveals that much of the relation between Shade and
Sybil is composed very similar to the relation VN and Véra had. She drove
the car and read first everything he had written:

"Sybil Shade ähnelt Mrs. Nabokov zumindest oberflächlich (...)."
(p. 51)

The essay starts with a description of how VN did his lectures at Cornell
with the help of Véra.
