Of course, I did not claim that Pynchon has invented it, but he has brought
it into literature, if it hasn't been used before, for example in _Catch 22_
(what I don't know) or by James Jones.

My point was that RAW has used it after Pynchon, and I agree to David that
the Trilogy is light reading compared to Pynchon.
