  this is a good essay. bought "the vineland papers" second hand for, well, 75- 
  €. all the articles, and the bibliography too, are well done. (a-and joseph w. 
  slade describes takeshi as "presumably the kamikaze of Gravity's Rainbow, now 
  a Der Springer-type fixer with some immunity from corporate control"). i like 
  the title of nicole zand's review of vineland's french edition: 
  
  "a la recherche du temps hippy" (le monde, 9/20/91). anyone?
