I think Pynchon speaks through his books/essays (no
great shakes there).
A concern with powerful people exploiting the
powerless. An anger/sadness that America's high ideals
are constantly thwarted by such people as the Bushes,
Reagans, and Nixons. Yes, systems are inherently bad
but there are those individuals pulling the
technology. So, not so much a look at America as evil
just the false idea that somehow we are of a higher
moral quality which the present admin. is bringing
home all the time despite its hypocrisy, cronyism, and
veiled and outright deceits.
tax cuts wealthy, WMD, global warming, international
criminal court, etc etc etc.
There's enough evidence in V/GR/M&D that Pynchon feels
the same way about America's inheritance (I guess
Freud brought up the point somewhere) of the evils of
British, German e.g. similar exploits of native
peoples, technology, and a supression of legitimate
dissent.
