>>>VL:GR::Unconditionally Guaranteed:Trout Mask Replica

I guess then V is Lick My Decals Off, Baby (in a temporally-challenged
manner of speaking).<<<

Many years ago I tuned in KCRW-FM
as I readied for bed, and they had the
Captain on the phone taking calls from
listeners. It was after he had decided to
cease performing and recording as a
musician, and the disappointment was
apparent in his voice as caller after
caller begged him to play again. Then
one caller asked him who was his favorite
author. The disappointment took a back
seat for about ten minutes as that gravelly
voice extolled the virtues of Vladimir Nabokov.

A couple of weeks ago I was in a used
book store in Cambria, California...a small
seedy joint with books in shelves obstructed
by stacks of cardboard trays full of more books.
I asked the aging Asian bookkeeper if he had any
Nabokov, and while muttering repeatedly
nab-uh-coff nab-uh-coff nab-uh-coff he led
me to a tall stack of random books and pulled out
a 1969 Signet pulp pb of ADA for $5.
Later at our room I began re-reading the first
few chapters and was awed once again by what I
has become my all-time favorite novel. I had to
laugh at the contrast between the complex
convoluted philosophical passages I was reading
and the cover art and rhetoric (best-selling
erotic masterpiece).
