Hector's really quite likeable, so is Zoyd, but they are both human,
opinionated, stubborn, and their values on some things clash. The argument
they have in Ch. 3 really does sound like a quarrel between long-standing
partners. However, beneath the displays of contempt there is a real sense of
mutual respect also. They've got the time for one another.
Plus, as you say, it's very funny.
