  you call jackson's approach "neoconservative deconstructionism"? i call it   
  "first-things-first-plus-either-or-positivism". anyway, after rob has been   
  over a text it's dead weight ... fortunately only for a while: just put the 
  book back into the fridge and in a minute or two it's - voilà - all fresh 
  & new again! 

  just don't understand why jay bore chose our man as an object of study.   
  here the old proverb - every author has the readers she or he deserves - seems 
  to come to its limits. perhaps pynchon should, like peter handke, write a kind 
  of "publikumsbeschimpfung" (audience diss). didn't gaddis do something 
  similar?
