The scene (pp 302-303) you refer to is highly ambiguous. Zoyd clearly doesn't think he's giving Hector any useful information (and doesn't intend to), and the text suggests that Hector's pretense that he's received a valuable tip is a joke. ("It occurred to Zoyd more belatedly than usual that Hector could all along have been running some exercise in narc humor for his own entertainment." (303) What's more, thirteen years later they're still playing the Sylvester and Tweety game, Hector still trying to pop Zoyd's cherry.
I don't think it's a settled question at all that Zoyd "gives up a guy."
