So, about this technology thing--Orwell's Big Brother, Pynchon's paranoia,
Ahscroft's Justice Department. I've been seeing a lot of fear in people
lately. Fear of the feds, the pinche federales. And not just from the
Persians I know either, but Americans. Friends. They're advising me,
pleading in some cases, not to talk about them on the Internet. They're
under the assumption "e-mail never dies." Is that true? What can the FBI do
technologically and legally as far as these electronic transmissions go? Is
there a way to permanently delete e-mail? So the federales can never recover
it?
If They were Brock Vond and rilly wanted to get into Frenesi's Inbox cuz
reading her private thotz was the only way He could get off anymore, could
he? Just how big is Big Brother? Anyone?
If Pynchon's worried about this stuff--and it's pretty evident he is--I want
to pay better attention.
