Constructed from the history of teevee Latinos from
Ricky Ricardo on here, though, as with yr average
mkyth, accreted around a kernel of truth.  I'm under
the impression that most bilinguals default to their
native tongues under duress, excitement, et al.  My
default being Anglo-Saxon, apparently ...

Also a kernel of truth here.  For a midrange
midwestern city which tends to foreground its German,
Polish and, to a lesser extent, Italian and Irish
heritage (I've all but one ot the former going), we've
an awful lot of Hispanic Jehovah's Witnesses here, at
any rate.  A surprising number of Mormons as well, but
they tend towards the more classic variety ...
