VLVL(4)(b) Phantom Ridge Road

	"Zoyd hit the Phantom Ridge Road..." (VL, Ch. 4, p. 35)  While
there is no Phantom Ridge Road in California, Phantom Streets and
Avenues populate southern California.  The name does conjure up images
of abandoned roads (see
http://www.aaroads.com/the_lost_highway/links.html) and ghosts of the
past making these six words a nice introduction to a chapter which
essentially tells us about Mr. Wheeler's past.  The images of fog
burning away, a "light blue haze" just past "Phantom Creek" reinforce
this trip into the netherworld of Mr. Wheeler's past.
