When you say "in the context of the poem" you seem to mean Canto One, which
focuses on his boyhood. But the context of the greater poem includes the death
of Hazel and his second near-death experiences, both turning points in his
life, Hazel's passing probably the central one ("time forked" I think he said).
"TSOTWS" being metaphorical, but not necesarily the event in his bedroom, and
not a literal event.
