I'm not sure it is off topic, since Shade said he was an infant when they died.
The deaths of his parents may have more significance that has benn revealed on
the surface of the poem. I get the feeling that a detailed lineage of both
Shade and Kinbote may be very revealing, but it's not an easy task. It would
take a considerable amount of paging back and forth through the book... I
wonder if anyone on the N-list (or one of Boyd's books) has already done this.
