Notes on translatiuons are in turn eminenetly useful
here, esp. as I'm under teh impression that Pynchon
can be pretty hands-on when it comes to translations
of his works (reaclling a comment made here a while
back about the French trans. of Mason & Dixon, though
I do realize other tranbslations have proceded
without, so far as I know, or have been told, the
authorial touch), at least maybe insofar as he
actually knows the language involved.  And
Spanish--and, to a lesser exctenet, German--he seems
to know

Well, at least the clothbound and paperback
translations of the English eds. share pagination, and
I think I'm right in assuming this is worldwide, so
far (ditto Slow Learner and M&D).  We haven't had the
hassles we had with V., Lot 49 and GR, at any rate. 
This is why I've generally included chapter numbers as
well (yeah, I know, VLs chapters aren't actually
numbered, but they're countable, at any rate; nothing
as nifty as the titles Joyceans have for Ulysses'
chapters, but ...), or, in GR, "part" numbers (I-IV,
though I will admit to being lazy about "episode"
numbers, and I leave out line numbers 'cos I figure,
once you're on the page ..., and I'm just not up to
counting everything).  But, hey, anyone's having
trouble locating a passage in question, speak up, and
I'm sure we can offer some way to triangulate ...
