What does Althusser say about why Pynchon doubles up Mildred Pierce’s
relationship with her daughter Veda and twists it from the soft boiled
detective novel about work and the suburbanization of California into a
hollywood film and onto the tube and into a novel?

What about cooking? Women in the kitchen? Prairie in the kitchen?
Nothing beats a great pair of legs. If you've got them. And a betty
crocker smile.

BTW, Mildred Pierce is yet another film about WORK.

Isn't it?
