Well -- reaching up and pulling down a likely candidate from the shelf at
random -- check out the opening of _Madame Bovary_, which begins as first
person recount ("We were in class when the headmaster came in ... "),
documents the scene incorporatingv direct speech, and then gradually shifts
into detached third person narration which details Charles' childhood. You
only need to read the first three pages.
