Beyond Godzilla (1954)?  Not off the top of my head,
though he knew just enough about HK action cinema
enough to namedrop Run Run Shaw (p. 142).  But, again,
Shaw Brothers films were a staple of grindhouses and
late-night teevee's "Kung Fu Theater" throughout the
70s.  Specific elements?  I don't know, but I believe
all those dashes in Takeshi's dialogue are there to
simulate the effect of Japanese monster/kung fu movie
dubbing.  But do also note ...
