I was quite amused to receive the post below from one of the leading 
participants of the Joyce-Ulysses reading group at Yahoo.  The level of 
scholarship exhibited on that list is stellar, as one can see from their 
recently completed group read of Ulysses.  That list is refreshingly notable 
for its combination of civility and high scholarship.  Insecurity seems the 
missing factor allowing this Joyce scholar to propose Pynchon as a worthy 
subject for discussion on the Joyce list.

Maybe a future project for us - after Dubliners - might be to look at 
Joyce's heirs and successors generally. Pynchon is an obvious candidate; no 
doubt we can come up with others.
