It's fairly obvious that DL and Frenesi were lovers and friends. 

But Takeshi? 

What about his  sexual encounter  (as Brock Vond's decoy
and double) with DL (disguised as Frenesi)?

Now that I think about it,  the quest is being directed through a
generation of losers by Takeshi and DL (losers at love, but winners of
the game).
