new year!

And here's the email:
For many years we have been waiting for a monthly magazine of wit and
intelligence, with a broad international mandate, and the independence to
speak freely. It has arrived in The Walrus.
The first issue (October 2003) featuring Marci McDonald, Lorraine Speiss,
Lewis Lapham, Margaret Atwood, Douglas Coupland, etc. was an initial
sellout. The second issue (Stephen Lewis, Chris Jones, Deborah Kirshner,
Bill Cameron, David Bezmosgis, Jeannie Marshall, and others) is on
newsstands now. The third issue (out in January, 2004) features Václav
Havel on corporate responsibility, Pico Iyer traveling in Bolivia, Charles
Foran, Siobhan Roberts, Don Gillmor, and an extraordinary lead article
(and photo essay) by Rita Leistner with the 7th US Calvary in Iraq. Other
contributors presently working on stories, articles, field notes, etc.
include Wayne Johnston, Jane Urquhart, Tariq Ali, Douglas Bell, Barbara
Nichol, and Curtis Gillespie.
Subscribing to The Walrus is easy. Just go to our website at
http://walrusmagazine.com and follow the links.
The Walrus is primarily a subscription-based magazine whose
content-to-advertising ratio will always be heavily weighted in favour of
editorial determined to meet the very high expectations of its discerning
readers. In an exquisitely designed magazine, The Walrus offers deeply
researched, fact-checked, and lively writing on world affairs. The Walrus
Magazine Inc. is a completely independent, not-for-profit, and no share
capital corporation. It is devoted, through the magazine, to elevating
public discourse and featuring great writing and art.
Please pass this email to your friends so they too can learn about The Walrus.
