Aragorn quoting Shakespeare? How about Eowyn's turn at McDuff before
slaying the Nazgul Lord?
Yeah, Dave, I caught the AT-AT similarity, too. I guess given the
antiquated stop-motion technique Lucas had to use back in the early Eighties
(vs. the CGI wizardry at Jackson's fingertips), one should revere the time
and effort that went into the former. But the look of the Oliphants was
more impressive, I think.
I, too, am disappointed with the "Scouring of the Shire" cut. However,
given all that happens at Minas Tirith, not to mention the "series" of
"endings" that seem to have many critics lamenting their lower back pain, I
wonder if including it would have been asking too much of the audience's
patience (not to mention a bit anti-climactic after that battle in Gondor!).
Ah well, there's always the extended DVD version . . .
I hear Jackson's trying to secure rights to do _The Hobbit_ next, by the way
. . .
Back to Pynchon . . .
