Back the last time we were waiting for a new Pynchon novel to come out
we had a group reading (as much a group reading as group readings ever
are) of Infinite Jest. I recall its being quite interesting. Out of it
materialized the Wallace List, of which several of us became charter
subscribers. Unfortunately it is impossible to think of a current book
that might rescue the p-list from its present moment. Please don't
anyone say Moby Dick or Tristram Shandy. The book would have to be
current and not already written-about to death. The fact of the matter
is, there just isn't anything new coming out. That I know about anyway.
