Terrance:

"Certainly 9-11 changed the shape of things. There is no doubt that the
Bush administration wants to restructure the balance of power in the ME
and that 9-11 opened a window of opportunity for them to do so."

Lets assume so...but which strategy do you believe would be more effective
- the current one, or, perhaps, one based on a stern invitation from a
solid front of nations for the House of Saud and the Hashemite royals to
establish new base camps, in , say, the Youkon territory?

"However, Iraq is an urgent concern of the UN. That it is US led urgency
is fairly obvious to the world, but it is still an urgent issue for the
UN and it must be dealt with. Moreover, it is not simply or only naked
US ambition."

I will try to see it your way if you can get scrubby to eschew the use of
first person singular when talking about Iraq........Given the caveat we've
agreed to re: selective enforcement, I have no objection to a UN led and
DIRECTED effort. And I'm satisfied that you are equally unwilling to see
one stage managed by Wolfowitz and Rumsfield....

"The French are fools."

vraiment......
