If you're asking why he's alluding to the "Uncertainty Principle," I answered
that already below. And as you say, the answer is obvious, so why ask why? It
has nothing to do with the real theories written by real physicists and
mathematicians of which I am mostly ignorant, as Pynchon might also be.

what are the numinous and ominous forces and patterns all around, before, and
after, to "understand" what is always proving to be uncertain. Here is an
example of a charcter trying NOT to nail down his perception, instinctively
knowing that he will loose some essence of "true lies" if he does. Whether he
understands QM, he is trying to tie it into his fiction as a literary trope.

As you say, that he alludes to QM is obvious. THAT'S so what. Unless I
misunderstand you, you were saying this was not so. And one doesn't have to
read Borwnlie to see this.
