that indeed was an original episode of Star Trek (one
of the better episodes ever)--Kirk and Co. fight over
the Enterprise with a bunch of Klingons, spurred on by
an alien life form that feeds on human fear.

there is possibly the best episode based on the Jack
the Ripper story which if I'm not mistaken was written
by Robert Bloch, the author of Psycho. The serial
killer-like entity also feeds on human fear. Scotty is
accused as he's always the dupe caught at the scene of
the murder.
