political polarity and pynchon

okay I have to ask, just can't stand wondering about it anymore...how many of 
you (us) on the P-list (actives and lurkers combined) were members of their 
high school chess teams?  And for the ladies, how many of you were on the 
chess team just to meet the cool boys?  I'll confess first:  I was VP of my 
high school chess team though then and now I barely know a knight from a pawn 
(e.g., my spiky professional life) but I was really into boys with thick 
glasses and quick wits...this was my only hope of getting such princes to 
notice me.  I look forward to your replies, insults, and pithy e-repartee.  
In not very obscure ways, this question does relate to Pynchon.  He certainly 
must have chessed.
