Yes, and no. I mean romanticism as a thought process, which does not 
permeate every human endeavor; while Bach had many issues with this 
on the surface, e.g. Deism and technicalism, he was also well in 
touch with the impulse of Romantic spirit.

capitalized : of, relating to, or having the characteristics of 
romanticism c : of or relating to music of the 19th century 
characterized by an emphasis on subjective emotional qualities and

In my view, he found "Romanticism" as a philosophical concept within 
an expression of music that isn't in the textbooks "Romantic"; 
however, this in itself is quite Pynchonian...
