Did you read about the Ape that becomes Alpha male after he finds an oil
can in a dump and by batting it about round the community (it makes a
very loud noise) he frightens off the dominant males and has his way
with the females for a couple-few days.

"fictional technique always relates back to the novelist's
metaphysics. The critic's task is to define the latter
before evaluating the former."

Well, I don't know if you've got to start with metaphysics or literary
technique but you've got to start (screw the Joyce blunder because the
silver backs here know Joyce better than Pynchon and they are quite
bored with Pynchon and would just love to rip your lungs out--one Dublin
day drubbing & donnybrook I'll wager you won't last a round). We ain't
sitting round the table looking to get pissed on. So, quit marking every
tree, pole, johnny-pump, and parking sign, and drop the white power
horse shit, belly up to the bar or get out of the pub. Now bitches
allowed in here.
