As much as I would like to keep talking Texas, we might as well get back to the story. Previous links provided offer better summaries than I can come up with, so I would rather look at African history instead... Slow Learner p 106...

The Fashoda Crisis Timeline.. dating this story just before September 19, 1898

A short summary of the Fashoda Crisis http://www.cusd.chico.k12.ca.us/~bsilva/projects/scramble/fashoda.htm

A picture of the two men meeting. http://www.chronicus.com/xixe/dossiers/fachoda/fachoda.htm

Already mentioned... a minor skirmish (107) nearly took place... maybe a war would have broke out in Europe. Very unlikely, I think - but had it, the English probably would have sunk what navy the French had. The English were probably generous in letting the French hold central Africa.

More tomorrow.
