It's even more interesting in a postmoral view. In this light,
societies are evolving, competing creatures like anything else; the
race to first-world status is one form of evolution, and surviving it
may be another.
It's interesting how the image of aliens - denuded of hair, naked
without technology, confined in moving cities of lights - is
consistent in human lore :)
