and how can i answer your question about Low-lands?
it's a fair question. sure it is. to answer it i'll
have to open the book and type out supporting passages
and explain my reading of them. that will take more
idle time than i've got. not that i can't set aside an
hour a day for the p-list, but I need to feel it's
productive. just me, you understand. i can improve my
reading and enjoy the books and the list only if the
list functions as an open discussion of pynchon (his
writings and so forth and not what he mihgt think
about whatever crisis the world might be about to
face). 

modesty or arrogance is not really the problem here.
is it?
