Astonished and slightly wounded by this sentiment I adamantly reply: keep us
close, the aging-ageless, questioning-questing, authority-bullying&baiting
Kennedy Children. We are the first generation of modern times surprised in
our innocence out of innocence, the last generation for whom "broken home"
had any serious meaning, the first generation for whom not procreating was a
scientifically and legally possible option; perhaps the last generation,
despite much political disappointment, to insist on believing that American
people, through millions of individual voices, can change the course of
events; the generation for whom Reality Television was and is war. Irony was
not the only tone possible when we were growing up; some things were able to
be taken seriously. Growing up for many of us may still not be possible. My
glass of chilled Red Zinger raised on high to that!
