I'm currently reading a new biography of Mussolini by
R. Bosworth which was published in 2002. Bosworth does
a pretty thorough job of explaining the influence
Mussolini and Italian fascism have had on post-war
Italy up to the present time. 
One gets a sense that Berlusconi's rise is not such a
shock when considered within the context of Italy's
political history since World War 2.
