Actually, the poem begins with a death and a shadow or shade.  Zoyd
doesn't smash into a window but into a clear pane of sugar. Both
novelists, however, are obsessed with  doubles jumping out of windows in
expensive clothes. 

Could be the influence of Deleuze, but maybe Conrad.
