Gravity's Rainbow is a novel, a fictional recreation
of the period immediately following WW II, published
in 1973.  It is a meaningless reference for the point
you're trying to make.

Such grasp as is displayed occasionally approximates
that of an historian, not of a current events analyst
or journlaist and most, all, of the history is
second-hand.  

Nothing in GR gives evidence that Pynchon knows Iraq
from Iran, Shamir from Sharon, or Osama bin Laden from
Allen Ludden.
